On a sunny Wednesday afternoon, the school yard was a hive of activity as children swarmed around waving banners and cheering for our King Bee Benas. The following morning Benas and his colony of classmates set off early and made a beeline for the Helix, at DCU in Dublin. It was the day of the All Ireland Spelling Bee and the theatre was filled with a buzz of anticipation. Benas, representing Connacht & Ulster, Ollie from Tipperary and Annie from Wexford faced their supporters and banners telling them to ‘Bee-lieve’ in themselves and to ‘Bee the best!’
Féile Ealaíne 2024 (Art Week) will occur from June 17th to June 21st. There will be activities for all different classes. For example, the 6th Class will participate in drama, painting, STEAM, Zumba, drumming, and Scratch programming. Féile Ealaíne aims to promote learning, sports, and music.

It was the day of the All Ireland Spelling Bee and the theatre was filled with a buzz of anticipation. Benas, representing Connacht & Ulster, Ollie from Tipperary and Annie from Wexford faced their supporters and banners telling them to ‘Bee-lieve’ in themselves and to ‘Bee the best!’ Each round saw spellers step up to the microphone, their minds abuzz with potential spellings. They progressed through the rounds impressing all present with their precision , grace and nerves of steel. The room hummed with excitement as Benas reached the head to head against Annie. Words such as coalition, hyperthermia, dodecastyle, sanctimonious and vituperate dripped from their mouths like honey, before the final stinging word:chromatophore. Annie was crowned Queen Bee on this occasion. Scoil Mhuire are incredibly proud of our King Bee Benas, who is already planning a return to the competition next year. Benas won €3000 worth of books for the school library, a voucher for himself and on the day all his classmates each received a goodie bag from Easons full of books and stationary. Huge Thank you to Eason’s for this. It was a memorable and un-bee-lievable day. Well Done Benas!
Well done to our All Ireland finalist Benas. Benas won the county final in Tuam on the 9th of April. He then went on to win the Connaught / Ulster competition on the 21st May in Sligo. He will be competing for the title of “King Bee” and the chance to win a school library to the value of €7,500 in the All Ireland Final in the Helix in Dublin on the 6th June. We are so proud of his achievement. Well done Benas!

Congratulations to all of the Second Class children who made their First Holy Communion this year.
The Parents Association, along with the 3rd class parents, were honoured to be involved in the party in the Halla Mór afterwards for the children and their families. This party gives the opportunity for families to connect with the school community, and the children to spend time with their friends before their family celebrations commence.
The Parents’ Association would like to thank all of the 3rd class parents who volunteered to bake food, decorate the hall and serve tea and coffee to the communion party guests. This party could not happen without the support you kindly offered.
A special thank you goes to Centra, in particular Eleanor Kyne, who kindly donated the contents of the party bags for the communion and choir children. The generosity of this donation was greatly appreciated.
Scoil Mhuire is lucky to have two very talented teachers who own the Balloon Boutique. Sandra & Nora Ni Dhonnacha’s beautiful balloon centrepieces were the highlight of the decor in the Halla Mor. They also donated the lovely balloon display at the entrance. I have included their details below for anyone who has an upcoming event.
And of course, none of this would have been possible without the hard work of the Communion Party Committee: Audrey Trigg, Arlene Cooke, Sinead Valla & Elaine Newell.
Mr Flathery’s and Ms Ellilffe’s 6th Class recently went on a school tour to Lilliput Adventure Centre in County Westmeath. They went bog diving, Rock climbing and Orienteering. Here are some photos from their lovely day out.
The parents association are currently working to devise a smartphone agreement whereby parents choose to sign a form stating that they would not allow their children to own a smartphone while in primary school. A survey has been sent out to all parents to gauge interest in this measure,if you haven’t done so, please complete the survey by clicking on this link.
