Our recent Book Swap was a fantastic success, with over a thousand books finding new homes! From picture books to graphic novels, fact books to joke books, there was something for every reader to enjoy.
A huge thank you to parents Arlene, Kim, and Sinead for their invaluable help in setting up tables and guiding children as they made their choices. A special shoutout to our incredible Student Council for their trojan work—keeping book displays tidy, grouping books by series, choosing background music and showing fantastic leadership and teamwork.
Most importantly, thank you to all the parents who generously donated books, making this event possible. Your support helped create a wonderful experience for our young readers. We hope everyone enjoys their new books and many happy hours of reading ahead!
Check out the video and pictures below to see the excitement of the day in action!
Scoil Mhuire’s student council have three areas that we work on.
We are the student voice –
Here are the things that you told us you wanted and so we have asked the school for them.
Mark out the boundary line clearly between 3rd /4thand 5th/6th class yards.
Basketball hoop for 5th/6th class yard.
Buddy benches in all yards.
Use the pitches more often.
No ball zones in yards and things to play with in no ball zones.
We will keep you updated on progress through student assemblies, our student council notice board and our page here.
2. We are Leaders –
As part of our leadership role we are currently organising friendship day to be held on Friday the 14th of February. We are busy creating posters and organising a list of games and ideas to celebrate our friendships on friendship day. Watch out for our posters around the school which will tell you about these activities. Your teacher will decide which ones to do on friendship day.
3. We are part of our community –
We would like to hear some ideas from you about projects you think would be good to work on in our community. Please talk to the student council member in your classroom and let us know of any ideas that you have so that we can start to get involved in our amazing community.
