We’re thrilled to announce that our lunchtime book club now has an official name for this school year, and it’s a-peeling! After a recent vote, The Banana Bookclub emerged as the clear favourite, and our bunch of book-loving bananas couldn’t be happier.
In October, the club enjoyed The Summer I Robbed a Bank by David O’Doherty, a hilarious adventure set in Achill that kept everyone entertained. The month wrapped up with a giant Kahoot quiz, where Emily and Eve from Rang a 3 were top bananas—Great job, girls!
For November, we have been reading No Ballet Shoes in Syria by Catherine Bruton, a heartfelt story about hope, friendship, and resilience. To further explore the themes and help us understand the world around us, we have explored the wonderful picture books ‘My name is not refugee’ by Kate Milner and ‘Lubna and Pebble’ by Wendy Meddour.
Beyond reading, The Banana Bookclub has been busy with creative activities, including the Peace Doves display that now brightens up our school’s front hall. They’ve also launched a Review Crew, where members share their personal reviews of books they have read. Keep an eye on the website for these reviews—They’ll be ripening up soon!
Stay tuned for more updates from The Banana Bookclub! 🍌📖
Happy Reading,
Mrs E Walsh
